The missing watch - power of silence

Let this blog find you connected with your inner voice. Here is a short story sent by a friend...

The Missing Watch…

There once was a farmer who discovered that he had lost his watch in the barn. It was no ordinary watch because it had sentimental value for him. After searching high and low among the hay for a long while; he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the barn. He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded.

Hearing this, the children hurried inside the barn, went through and around the entire stack of hay but still could not find the watch. Just when the farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance.

The farmer looked at him and thought, "Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough."

So the farmer sent the little boy back in the barn. After a while the little boy came out with the watch in his hand! The farmer was both happy and surprised and so he asked the boy how he succeeded where the rest had failed.

The boy replied, "I did nothing but sit on the ground and listen. In the silence, I heard the ticking of the watch and just looked for it in that direction."

It is said that our inner voice & heart keep speaking to us very softly. Notice that in last many years, the noise, sound & information around us has increased multi-folds:  internet, mobile, social networking, 100s of TV channels, media etc.

What has remained constant is our 24 hours each day. All this information overload keeps bombarding on us. The inner voice has very little chance to be heard.

We found a practical suggestion that can allow us to hear the inner voice and get clarity. It is as simple as just SITTING in SILENCE. No accessories required. Only keep your eyes closed. Preferably sit on a mat on the floor with your legs folded in the lotus posture. But any other posture will do. You can even do it while sitting on a chair, in a flight or in a moving vehicle. The only rule is keep your eyes closed & REMAIN AWAKE.

I initially found it impossible to even remain awake for 5 minutes. Slowly with practice the duration increased.

If you do it for just 30 minutes a day, you will experience an amazing level of peace. You will also get lots of new ideas and clarity on the latest issues in your life. Doing it early morning gives a refreshing start to the day.

May you discover a new level of clarity & peace in life.

Warm regards,
